{"id":1645,"date":"2022-03-17T14:26:55","date_gmt":"2022-03-17T21:26:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/live-azgfd-main.pantheonsite.io\/?page_id=1645"},"modified":"2025-07-02T16:24:04","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T23:24:04","slug":"wildlife-manager-hiring-process","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.azgfd.com\/about-arizona-game-fish\/employment-volunteering\/become-a-game-ranger\/wildlife-manager-hiring-process\/","title":{"rendered":"Wildlife Manager &#8211; Arizona&#8217;s Game Wardens Hiring Process"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"steps-to-take-to-be-considered-for-hire-to-be-a-wildlife-manager\">Steps to Take to be Considered for Hire to be a Wildlife Manager<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Where adventure and mission meet<\/strong>.<br>Wildlife Managers are field-oriented commissioned officers whose duties include conserving and protecting Arizona\u2019s wildlife resources for generations to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"learn-about-becoming-a-game-ranger-also-known-as-a-wildlife-manager\">Hiring Process<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The process consists of successful completion\/ pass of the following to be considered for hiring:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Application via the Arizona Statewide Job Web site &#8211; When applying, applicants MUST attach the following: (1) Resume and unofficial transcript (combine; provide as 1 attachment), (2) Cover letter including interest in being a certified police officer; include experience in hunting, fishing, off-highway vehicles and boating.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fingerprinting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Background Investigation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Polygraph Examination<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interview<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Psychological Assessment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medical Examination\/Drug Screen<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Physical Fitness Evaluation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Present\/Past Employer and Personal Reference Checks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Out-of-state applicants should plan to spend four or five consecutive days in Phoenix during the testing process. Applicants are responsible for the cost of all travel, lodging, meals, local transportation and any other related expenses when traveling to Phoenix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"learn-about-becoming-a-game-ranger-also-known-as-a-wildlife-manager\">Selection Process and Testing<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Those applicants meeting the minimum qualifications and position criteria may be scheduled for testing and an interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants who are successful with the polygraph examination and the interview will be given a verbal conditional job offer. These applicants are expected to attend the additional testing (medical, psychological and physical fitness) that will be pre-scheduled. Applicants not given the conditional job offer will not attend additional testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Final selections will be made upon successful completion of the tests and interview. All applicants will be notified once final selections are made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Polygraph<\/strong><br>The polygraph examination is used to verify the truthfulness of the documents completed and submitted by the applicant, as well as the applicant\u2019s verbal statements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Medical<\/strong><br>The medical examination is performed by an AZ POST-certified physician and consists of two parts \u2013 the blood\/urine testing and the medical exam. It certifies that the applicant meets the prescribed standards for the job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Psychological<\/strong><br>The psychological fitness evaluation relates to the applicant\u2019s ability to perform the duties of a Peace Officer. It consists of a written examination and a personal interview with a psychologist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Physical Fitness<\/strong><br>After passing the medical exam, applicants are tested on a 1.5 mile run, 1-minute push-ups and 1-minute sit-ups. The 50th percentile on the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research Physical Fitness Norms should be met or exceeded.
