Hunter Education Class Requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Youth ages 10-14 hunting big game in Arizona must have a valid Hunter Education certificate (and license). If you are 14 years old or older, you do not need Hunter Education to hunt big game in Arizona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A youth between the ages of 10 and 14 can enter the draw without having Hunter Education but must complete Hunter Education prior to their hunt. Youth hunters can purchase a hunting license without having attended Hunter Education. You can complete a Hunter Education course at the age of 9 but cannot hunt big game in Arizona until age 10. Register now\u2014 in-person classes fill up quickly!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To better serve the needs of its resident students, AZGFD is offering two new fully online options \u2014 Hunter-Ed Course and ilearntohunt. These options will allow Arizona resident<\/strong> only <\/strong>students to fully complete their certification online with no in-person requirement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hunter Education is not required for anyone 14 years of age or older in order to hunt in Arizona.<\/p>\n\n\n

Adults, 18 and older, who have a minimum of three years of hunting experience may complete the Arizona Hunter Education online course and an in-person field practical. The field practical will test your knowledge of safe, legal, ethical hunting in the field.

How many courses are there and which apply to me?<\/h3>\n <\/summary>\n
\n \n

There are five types of courses. The Online, Hybrid, Classroom, and Bonus Point Field Day are all Hunter Education courses that also award a lifetime bonus point after successful completion. The Ethically Hunting Arizona course is NOT Hunter Education but an expanded course that is Arizona specific to obtain a lifetime bonus point. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Online<\/strong> – Must be 9+ years old AND a resident<\/strong>. Two options; \u2018Hunter-ed.com<\/a>\u2019 & \u2018ilearntohunt.com<\/a>\u2019. Both have virtual field days and are self paced. There is no in-person requirement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hybrid<\/strong> – Must be 9+ years old, can be resident or non-resident. Online portion and in-person field day with live fire at the range. The online portion is self paced. After it is passed it requires the student to take the second half in-person within 90 days. Recommended for students with little firearm handling or hunting experience.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Classroom<\/strong> – Must be 9+ years old, can be resident or non-resident. Several day fully in-person course with a curriculum that involves in-person classroom and live fire at a shooting range. Recommended for students with little firearm handling or hunting experience.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bonus Point Field day<\/strong> – Must be 18+ years old with 3 years of hunting experience. Can be resident or non-resident. Students take the hybrid online course option then attend in-person Bonus Point Field Day to \u201ctest out\u201d. The in-person portion typically takes 1 hour.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ethically Hunting Arizona<\/strong> – Must be 18+ years old, can be resident or non-resident. Online course that with successful completion awards a Lifetime Bonus Point. This course is NOT Hunter Education.<\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/details>\n\n\n

Requirements<\/strong>: Preregistration is required for all Hunter Education class formats. While you must be 10 years of age to hunt big game you may complete Hunter Education at the age of 9 however, the Hunter Education completion card and certificate does not become valid until the child\u2019s 10th birthday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Customer ID \u2013 Students will need to provide a Customer ID number found on their AZGFD Portal.\u00a0 Students should provide this number ONLY on their Hunter Education class registration.\u00a0 This number is required to complete any registration. Students must have their own portal or be attached to their parents portal. If you need help accessing your CID, please stop into an office or call customer service<\/em> at 602 942-3000, choose 7.<\/em>

Purpose<\/strong>: The purpose of the hunter education program is about more than safety. It is also to develop responsible, knowledgeable and involved hunters who understand the importance of complying with hunting laws and behaving ethically.
